What Happened New Year's

We started the week of New Year's with a sick Fiona. Sunday before New Year's Day, she developed a really bad cough. I took her in on Monday and turned out, she had pneumonia! They gave her an antibiotic shot and we had to go in the next day for a follow up. It was amazing how much that shot impacted her and made her better.

Sweet Fi after her shot. Nothing worse that seeing your baby in pain.

Through all of this, Maeve developed a stuffy nose and on New Year's day, she started having a little cough. I became worried since Fiona had been sick so the day after New Year's I took her into the doctor. The doctor couldn't find pneumonia or anything bacterial so we went on the assumption that she had a bad virus. She was stuffed up, coughing and sounded funny when she breathed. We weren't sleeping at night much either.

We went in the next day. She seemed to be slightly worse and was starting to not eat as well so the doctor decided to do an RSV test. We went in the next day and the next. She would always check out fine or the same. We did a breathing treatment to see if it would help her, but it didn't really.

Fiona photo bomb!

On sunday we went in again and found out her RSV test had come back positive. Now we knew what we were dealing with. The doctor said our job was to watch her. If her fever spikes to 102 or above, go to the hospital . . . and it did Sunday evening.

Maeve was put on oxygen and an IV along with antibiotics to fight off a secondary infection that ended up being nothing. I was grateful we were in the hospital because that night her fever spiked to above 103. They were able to give her tylenol and monitor her closely.

It was the scariest and saddest thing I've experienced as a parent this far. Watching Maeve fight off this virus and seeing how bad it affected her was hard. We did a lot of snuggling while we were in the hospital.

After one night and full day there, Maeve was able to come off her oxygen. Her IV was able to be taken out too. It had been moved from her hand to her foot after it came out and then her foot began to swell. She was doing so good at that point, they decided she would be ok without it. She began eating like crazy and smiling and cooing. The transformation from 24 hours before was amazing!

We went home Tuesday with a happy healthy baby girl. It also felt so good to be back with Fiona. I felt terrible not being with her while she recovered from being sick too!

We had planned on having some people over for New Year's and had to cancel but we still managed to have fun with the girls!

We can't thank everyone enough for their prayers while we went through that week. I know it helped Maeve and Fiona recover so fast. You wouldn't even know they were sick!
